This one of those weeks that I have to recover from the weekend during the working week… but it was worth it. The conference was very good. The main topic was ‘Faith, Hope & Love, cement between the bricks of the church’… a theme that I found rather fuzzy when I read it. It turned out to be very much to the point: have the faith that God can do miracles, have the hope that it will happen in your church, and have love between eachother and in all things. A lot of things are going on in many so-called Brethern-assemblies, many local congregations are struggling with things – transitioning from old to new, freedom over tradition, et cetera.
Especially the teaching on faith was refreshing. ‘We’ have always had a strong emphasis on the salvation and obedience part of faith, and less on the day-to-day, practical trusting aspects of it. Also the power of faith, the conviction that God can and will do works, the word of faith have had too little attention. Maybe it was a reaction on the pentecostal overemphasis on these things, maybe ‘we’ were just afraid that things will go out of control, I don’t know. The fact is that we lack much of the power that we could have!
A quote from the second teaching: ‘Youth are the incarnation of Expectation”. I like that one!
