Finance and ethics

Yesterday I attended another meeting of a so-called ‘Christian Leadership Council’. It was held at the headquarters of Rabobank in Utrecht, and one of their Board members, former Minister of Economic Affairs Joop Wijn, held a very interesting speech. He zoomed in on the ethical aspects of banking and how Rabobank wants to incorporate ethical behaviour in their organisational and procedural structures. It sounded a … Lees verder Finance and ethics

Understanding grace

It happened last night: watching someone really understand grace is a beautiful thing.

We know that everything in the Law was written for those who are under its power. The Law says these things to stop anyone from making excuses and to let God show that the whole world is guilty. God doesn’t accept people simply because they obey the Law. No, indeed! All the Law does is to point out our sin. Now we see how God does make us acceptable to him. The Law and the Prophets tell how we become acceptable, and it isn’t by obeying the Law of Moses. God treats everyone alike. He accepts people only because they have faith in Jesus Christ. All of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. But God treats us much better than we deserve, and because of Christ Jesus, he freely accepts us and sets us free from our sins. (Romans 3: 19-24)

By faith we have been made acceptable to God. And now, because of our Lord Jesus Christ, we live at peace with God. Christ has also introduced us to God’s undeserved kindness on which Lees verder “Understanding grace”

Deeply rooted, growing strong

Back from the annual staff conference, as always held in Dalfsen. The conference center changed its name to ‘Mooirivier’ (Beautiful River’) and had been completely upgraded and restyled. An real improvement! The conference was great. It is just amazing to see how God is bringing things together. Saturday morning gave an overview on everything that Agapè is doing, which was very inspiring, even for me … Lees verder Deeply rooted, growing strong

When bad things happen…

I just read my Twitter entry from Monday, saying that I felt physically miserable but spiritually okay. It would be too much to say that I now feel spiritually miserable, but I certainly feel shaken due to a number of things happening these last few days. Some of them are really good: the barbecue, strengthening friendships, installing a new team leader in Rotterdam, meeting new … Lees verder When bad things happen…

Last Saturday was the day: the First Novemberstraat Buurtbarbecue was held! With some 15 neighbours we had a good time at the field next to our block. The weather was perfect, and in the afternoon the kids kicked off with a bouncer castle and kids’ games. The party got off right with the firing of the barbecues. It was just a very nice party, with … Lees verder Bbq

A multiplying movement team

Just received this picture of the Agapè student ministry team 2008-2009. The team has doubled this last year! I am as excited as they are about what is happening. The three people on the right (Arjan, Marianne and Leendert) will be sent out to the UK for a year of on-the-job training. Hannah (middle) and Maarten & Marianne just returned from the UK from different … Lees verder A multiplying movement team

Site updates

Did some updating to the site. Most important change is an updated library, including a direct link to it. I wrote a couple of reviews of books that I read this summer. And, as I said, there are a couple of new picture galleries. Also fixed the feeds in the sidebar as they did not work properly. And of course I changed the header picture… … Lees verder Site updates
